Start a blog and land a job

I came across an article on MSN Careers which mentioned someone get a job through a blog.

“I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of Web 2.0 as it relates to my industry,” explains Debbie Horovitch, a marketing and media specialist. She decided to start a blog and use its content as a virtual calling card, where she can show readers what she’s learned.

“The results of my efforts are online for all potential employers. They can see that I am a self-starter, and understand business trends, opportunities and needs.”

My take on this

I agree very much with the above statement.  Starting a blog tells you a lot about the person.  Some of the characteristics are:

Self-starter - No one told me to start a blog.  I wanted to start it yourself.

Hard worker - Blogging takes a lot of work.  I mean a lot of work!  One blog post can ranged anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Motivated - I have a drive inside me to make my blog popular.  I set time out of my day to write a blog post for you readers :) I hope you are enjoying the posts.

Passion - I started this blog because I like to share what I have learned over the years.  I am not here to make money.  Sharing is caring.

These are just a few that I can think of.  What other characteristics can you think of that would describe a blogger?

It’s funny where you find out how employers are hiring these days. The most popular social networking site is linkedin, which is similar to facebook but more professional (hint: no pictures of yourself drunk and falling over). I’ve heard of many people finding work through linkedin and even through blogs. Who would have thought?
