AIG Bonuses
Everyone was up in arms on why AIG was giving bonuses to their employees. The senate even wanted to tax the bonuses at 90 %. This means that if you got a bonus of $100,000, you would get to keep only $10,000. The other 90% was lost through taxes. I believe that is a little harsh but the bonuses were being paid through the bailout money.
The reason the senate did this was because they wanted to divert the attention away from the economy and the billions of dollars the government is spending. In all, I thought it was pathetic that the government was going after the AIG bonuses. It was the government’s fault for signing the contract which allowed for these bonuses to take place in the first place. The senate could have spent the time on dealing with the health care crisis. Only time will tell if the economy turns around for the better. We have a long way to go.
What is your take on the AIG bonuses?

Well the loophole for allowing bonus money to go through was a major fall out. We can also say that without bonus pay, how will a company that is on the brink of failing retain its best workers that can easily go elsewhere? Monday the new TARP rules/plan comes out so that should really show what direction the government will be pushing the economy.

I highly doubt it.
I remember when there was the first bailout, many were on a retreat and when asked in front of the senate committee, they had no regrets for getting their massages and caviar on the tax payers tab. Its just the way the business mentality is. So many of my former classmates are just like this. Its all about the money and no real care for how it comes (sad).
