5 characteristics of a successful business owner

To run a profitable and lasting business, a person needs certain type of characteristics:

Here are 5 characteristics for a successful business owner:

1) Where your money goes. I am shocked at how many business owners do not know where their money is being spent. As a business owner, you need to know exactly how much money you are spending on advertising, marketing, payroll, etc.

2) Have thick skin. From my experiences, business owners are too scared to fire an employee or stand up for something they believe in. Being nice, only goes so far.  Also, when you need some type of services done, make sure you ask for this question, “What’s the best price you can give me”  You will be surprised at how many times the company providing the services will reduce their price.

3) Experience in your niche. Before opening a business in your niche, you need to know how the business works. Best way is to work in the industry and then start your business.

4) Trends and research. You always needs to be reading and doing research and testing out new strategies which will help your business in the long run. Once you start doing that, you will be ahead of your competitors.

5) Value your employees. If you have any employees whatsoever, make sure you go out of your way to show them that you really appreciate their hard work and dedication.

I am sure there are other characteristics of a successful business owner. What other ones can you think of?
